States to spend £94 million on new hospital mural

The States of Guernsey have announced extravagant plans to install a new Banksy art piece at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

It’s expected to cost £93 million to have the camera-shy urban artist paint the new installation, while the remaining £1 million will be spent on improving the senior management team’s wheely chairs.

Mark Le Marquand, a spokesman for the States, said they were very excited to bring Banksy to Guernsey.

“We’ve seen a lot of buzz on the socials about Mr Banks, and we really like his thought provoking work in various places across Britain,” he said.

“It won’t be long until people are coming from far and wide to see the latest bit of art at our little hospital.

“Mr Banks is notoriously secretive so we’re exploring plans to close the hospital at night.

“We’ve had people telling us for years to put money into the hospital and the arts, so we’re feeling pretty happy with this deal.”

Banksy is expected in the island some time next year and will likely take between 12 and 24 months to complete the work.
